Hey… quick question re airfield ops…

Do your electricians who are responsible for the airfield lighting system work in teams or is this a job that can be performed independently?

Same question for airfield debris / animal removal… are these jobs performed in teams or can be the performed independently?

Thanks much!

We have done the same here.  As the budget season is upon us, I had already calculated 10 to 15 percent increase for most major policies.

Even before the pandemic, we were all aware of the multiple years of heavy aviation losses. Coronavirus does not appear to be a claims driven event for aviation insurance.  There will be some claims of passengers contracting COVID-19 while on board an aircraft. Airlines may get suits for denied boarding of passengers that appear sick, and crewmembers may file workers comp claims for alleged contraction of COVID-19 while within the course of employment. However, these claims are not expected to add up to a market-changing event. Just being proactive with my budget .My broker put me on notice of possible increases.

Wow!

Jimmy, how are you quantifying anticipated premium increases? Do the brokers have enough info to gage the impacts yet?

Other things to think about

It will impact bonds as well.  I had a scenario yesterday where a concessionaire’s performance bond was being called by the surety because of the current impact on the aviation industry. The bond was $6.9 million.  We are down to 7K people going through the checkout lanes.  We may lose our position as the world’s busiest airport, but then again everyone is affected.

Hi Tamika,

My broker and I went thru the Port policies and we found , Communicable Disease: $500,000 Per Occurrence  under the Property policy .In order to use it there has to be a mandate civil authority , mandating the Port take action . The Governor has mandated issued Executive Order 20-12 , directing everyone in Oregon to stay at home to the maximum extent possible and adding to the list of businesses that will be temporarily closed to stem the spread of COVID-19 in Oregon. The mandate forced a number of PDX tenents to close shop and now we have a loss of revenue to make a claim . So far I have our Property policy and Fema  on notice . If you have a Pollution policy I would check that .

Loving Risk Management 😊

Hi Guys!

I hope you all are faring well in these crazy times. I know you are super busy...aren't we all. It just hit me that I am surrounded by such intelligent professionals who I can use as a resource.

Are you seeking any business interruption coverage resulting from this occurrence. For example, concessionaires are closing or reducing hours; this could/will impact the MAGs (depending on how the contracts are written). Is the loss of income potentially recoverable under the property policy? Are you guys putting carriers on notice? Also, are you seeking recovery for income losses related to the halt of international travel? Anything I’m missing that I could seek coverage for?

I think our policy has a small sublimit for Communicable Disease and a 48 hr waiting period for Civil Authority (Midway closure). I have my Insurance RM looking into it; wanted to see what you guys were doing. Let me know.

Thanks for your help!!!

Tamika
