ECONOMIC CHALLENGES

GOVERNMENT OPERATIONS

  • West Hollywood, Calif., Mayor John D’Amico tested positive for Covid-19 and is in self-quarantine. Mayors in Louisville, Ky. and Wichita, Kan., also are in self-quarantine due to potential exposures.
  • The city council in Anniston City, Ala., joined Champaign, Ill., Fayetteville, Ark., and others in voting to temporarily give mayors certain emergency powers.
CANCELLATIONS, CLOSINGS & SOCIAL DISTANCING
  • Fresno, Calif., and Oak Park, Ill., have joined seven Bay Area counties in California by ordering residents to shelter in place, or stay home except to buy food, visit the doctor, exercise, or care for a pet. Here's more on what sheltering in place means.
  • Kauai, Hawaii, is the latest to enact a curfew. Flights in and out of the island are restricted to essential purposes only.
VULNERABLE POPULATIONS
  • Los Angeles is turning recreation centers into homeless shelters and hopes to have 1,600 beds available by the end of this week. New Haven, Conn., and Portland, Ore. announced plans to use hotels as part of their solutions for the homeless.
  • Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner is partnering with furniture businessman Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale to get residents to donate non-perishable items that can be delivered to area seniors.

After testing positive for Covid-19 (but not experiencing symptoms), Suarez told Fox News viewers to take the pandemic very seriously: “I feel great. I have been relatively asymptomatic since I tested positive …. Hopefully, I am in the category of people that are young and healthy and are not going to feel any significant symptoms, but the elderly in our community are definitely at risk and we have to do everything that we can to protect them.”
